Murphy Group required a new solution for their transport division that would ultimately allow them to manage thousands of different projects from one application.
The Challenge
They needed a way to quickly and efficiently roster over 5,000 staff per week across many different specialisms. Additional requirements included the ability to show workers their fatigue and risk scores through a mobile experience.
Murphy still worked with a wide range of embedded software that they weren’t able to move away from. They needed a system that could integrate with their existing applications and display the information in a more user-friendly way.
We were confident that Signal could quickly bring about major
improvements for Murphy, so we planned a project to integrate their existing software with Signal, whilst also allowing them advanced shift booking functionality and fatigue & risk monitoring.

The Solution
Signal allowed Murphy to easily manage a high-volume of shifts across multiple sites and contracts, whilst also collecting real-time fatigue information to protect their workers. We were also able to further improve their operations by enabling them to share fatigue and risk scores with their workers, so they could log in and see their own data in a web browser. Another key factor for Murphy was to integrate Signal with their existing systems so information flowed seamlessly, allowing them to make the most of Signal’s functionality and cut out inefficient processes.

A major challenge for Murphy was managing the risk assessments that need to be sent out to workers on a regular basis. Risk assessments had to be tailored to each contract or site, and then stored against each worker on that project. By using Signal, Murphy are now able to create customised risk assessments, using a basic form builder, and send them out directly to relevant employees via Signal (or alternatively via a supervisor and sent by email). Risk assessment results are stored and each worker is assigned automatically given a high, medium or low score depending on their answers, and are also colour coded to assist with fatigue management.
